Hello!

Hi. My name is Blue. You may have seen me in the neighborhood.

I am a 12-year old neutered male Devon Rex cat. You may think that I look funny but all cats of my breed share similar characteristics. We lack an outer coat (guard hairs) and have only the "undercoat" which is soft and wavy (and very warm). It is a mutation. Many cats of my breed have patches of hair missing, especially on our necks and under-body. We are supposed to look like this. Our ears are quite large and our necks quite thin. We can be of any coat color - from tabby striped to Siamese-type with points and everything (my mother was a Blue-Point Devon Rex) and I'm not sure who my father was -- he may actually have been a regular cat. Sometimes breeders will breed a purebred Rex to a regular cat. Not sure why actually. My color is Blue and White, hence my very non-creative name: Blue.

I have always been a very active cat. You may notice that I walk with a pronounced limp and that my right leg and paw have a funny curve. When I was a year old I was in an accident where I hung by my right front leg for a while. Not sure how that happened, actually. It really hurt but I eventually got free. My human guardian (mom) who is coincidentally, a veterinarian found me and took me to Dove Lewis Emergency hospital where I was diagnosed with a Brachial Plexus Avulsion. It was pretty crazy - my pupils were different sizes and I couldn't put my foot down at all at first.

My mom did some acupuncture on me (she is a holistic veterinarian) and gave me a homeopathic remedy, which calmed me down quite a bit and hopefully helped to mitigate the nerve damage. I also got some osteopathic treatment from Dr. Reese. She is very nice.

As time went on my leg got better and I could put weight on it and walk and run pretty normally, but it was never really normal. I cannot feel my little toe or the outer half of the one next to it on my right foot. It is called ulnar paralysis. I was not yet full-grown when it happened and so my radius bone grew but my ulna did not and eventually my leg got more and more crooked and I walk with a limp.

I like being outside and I like to visit the neighbors. My mom and dad (my human guardians) have tried to keep me as an indoor cat from time to time so that I wouldn't hurt myself again but I drove them crazy (like any teenager, LOL) so they continue to let me live my full life as an indoor-outdoor cat.

So that is my story.

I am not malnourished. I may beg for food but my mom would prefer that you not feed me (damn). I am not "messed up". And another thing: we have waxy skin and our ears and eyes are pretty waxy. I think it has something to do with not having a regular haircoat.

Animal Planet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfOp2yAtlZo

I don't watch much TV - in fact I kind of hate the noise of it and how it interrupts my inner "wha" so to speak.

Anyway, they did have this one really great show about Devon Rex cats on it. We are exactly like this, especially Sabine - will give you all a better idea of why I am the way I am on so many levels.

Except that everyone, even Auntie Connie noticed that I am actually a half-breed. Bigger than these imp-y things, but my mom looked exactly like this.

One guy on the show - my mom keeps calling him "Nick" has an accent very similar to where my breed originates from - my mom says she knows him from vet school where he was a professor of anesthesiology (that's when they gas you down) and now he is kind of famous for something else - using drugs to help cats - I DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' DRUGS NICK!!!

And our eyes do not look the way they look because we don't have hair on our faces, that is just dumb - they are very special eyes...

THE DOG

Did I mention that we have a DOG??? I can't believe it happened but my mom and dad supposedly "rescued" him from a weird situation. He was found wandering around in Hillsboro (wherever) and some people found him and tried to find his owners. He was probably dumped (LOL) and then he stayed with that family for a while but they had other dogs (yuck) and teenage boys and it was too much I guess (whatev).

So then we got him - crap - I HATE dogs.

He is a dork. He likes to go through MY cat door and run out and bark at stuff at all times of the day and night. But he is too stupid to get back IN the door so he just barks. I am so embarrassed by this because although I meow a lot (and have been known to talk to myself for period of time (well, I am interesting, yes?) he is so loud that it bugs people.

Probably completely un-trainable but my mom and dad somehow tolerate it. He sleeps in a cage at night so that Sabine and I can be alone in the bed with mom and dad - thank GOD!!!!
